Make Your Own Nail Colour with Julep

A few days ago I was contacted by a representative of Julep to create a post that depicts my ideal nail polish colour. I along with some other bloggers will be taking part in this, and one of us will have the opportunity to have our dream colour become a reality.

It took me a good long while to decide what exactly I wanted this colour to look like and for a few days all I could come up with was a vague - fairly generic - image. I looked at some images on Pinterest and at Julep's nail collection for some inspiration and eventually came up with an idea. I've noticed that Julep's nail polishes - most of them anyway - are named after girls ranging from the likes of Abigail to Zoe and from there I decided to come up with a name and personify it into a unique-ish colour. Here's what I've managed to come up with:

The name that I've chosen for the colour is Wren - because it cool (haha). Now, let's get to know her.

Who is Wren?

Wren is a stubborn girl that stands up for what she believes in, no matter the consequences. She mostly keeps to herself and doesn't appreciate being messed with. Retaliation is something that she doesn't hesitate on doing, she can be tough when she feels she needs to be and yet be kind enough to defend people who can't defend themselves. I guess at times saying that she's unhinged would be a bit of an understatement, but she's overall a strong, kind person - even if a little dark.

I love myself some glitter nail polish and I'd like my colour to be just that. The colours that I've chosen to include in the polish, are colours that have inspired me and I feel really depict who exactly Wren is.

I imagine the base colour to be black and the glitter fragments themselves to be the colours of those depicted above. And lastly, I imagine this to be a crackle nail polish to further represent Wren's unstable personality.

Overall to me, the colour just represents wild freedom and strength and I like the end product of what I've come up with. I tip my hat to those who's job it is to come up with nail polish colours, cause it's not so easy.
What do you guys think of the look?

Did the description create a clear enough image for you?

If your as curious I was to know if Julep has a nail colour with your name on it, you should check out their line of colours here. As it turns out there is a colour named Shannon, I'd imagined that it would've been an icy pastel blue, but I guess a pastel green is close enough.

And, if you're interested in fashion and in winning a trip to New York, Julep is currently hosting a sweepstakes in which the winner (and a friend) get a trip to New York Fashion Week and a $5,000 shopping spree. Here's the link to enter. Hurry though, the sweepstakes ends on the 30th.

T'is all.

Bye everyone and I'll talk to you in the next post.

Gillette Venus Snap with Embrace (Travel Razor)

Summer, summer, summer. Wow I can't wait. I can't wait to hit the beach and be outside after being in for so long studying. I've been plotting for some time about the things I want to do this summer and I just can't wait to walk out from my last exam on Friday.

When you hear about summer, what's the first thing that comes to mind? For me it's the beach, and with the beach comes bikinis, and with bikinis you've just got to have your legs looking on point.

Something that I've been testing out for a little while now is this Gillette Venus Snap with Embrace* travel-sized razor.

One of the things that I like about this travel-sized razor, it that it's travel-sized. With the case and everything it fits into my palm and the razor itself it the size as a bottle of nail polish, which means that I can take it anywhere with me; in my handbag, school bag, beach bag. I could put it anywhere I could put my phone really, except for in my pockets though - that would just be weird.

I don't have to use shaving cream when I'm using this. All I have to do is wet my skin before I use this and I'm good to go. Remember though, wet your skin first, don't let those adds fool you with those people that are seemingly shaving there legs right on the spot. Wet your skin. The water acts as a kind of lubricant that lets the blue band framing the razor glide over the skin.

In my experience using this razor, it has left my skin feeling soft and smooth. It manages to give such a close shave. Never have I ever had such a great outcome with a regular razor from the drugstore, yeah this is definitely a bit more costly than a drugstore brand razor, but I guess you get what you pay for. The squishy, pink circle thing is what makes that short handle so easy to deal with. It gives me a comfortable grip on the razor.

The blades of this are replaceable and are the exact same as the normal sized Venus Embrace razors so when ever I need a refill I wont have to go around looking for a special sized cartridge, I could just use the ones that are already on the market.

The little blue compact that houses the razor features vents to keep the razor fresh after each use; the razor also snaps into place inside.

Overall with the experience that I've had with this razor, I would definitely say that this will be something that I'll continue to use, even after summer, but I'll leave it more for travel purposes I think. I'd definitely recommend it.

I haven't been to the beach in ages and I miss it, I've planned for this summer to be one packed full of visits to the beach so definitely lookout for some lifestyle and summer themed post.

T'is all, summer here I come!

Bye everyone and I'll talk to you in the next post.

My Everyday Brow Routine

Hi again everyone, so in my last post I revealed that I use actual mascara on my brows as opposed to brow gels and powders and in this post I'll share with you exactly why I do this and which product I do it with. As my hair is a very dark brown colour I use the CoverGirl Lash Blast Fusion in the shade black brown on my brows.

When I first got this mascara I was devastated that it was a dark brown, it did literally nothing for my lashes - except for making them even more invisible. My lashes would just simply blend into my skin colour when I used this on them. So, there I was about to cast this mascara to the back of my mind when I decided to have one of my silly moments. I decided since I didn't have anything to do with the mascara that I was at least going to have some fun with it otherwise.

I messed around with it on my brows and thought that it'd actually looked good. I was a bit confused though. If it made my eyelashes blend into my skin, why didn't it do the same to my eyebrows? I still don't really know why that's happened, but I'm glad it did. This discovery has since served to make my morning makeup routine move along a lot faster, just a few swipes with the wand on each brow and then it's over.

I know that there's the Benefit Gimme Brow that basically does the same thing, but, this mascara is much cheaper. However, the Lash Blast wand is way big, so I would not recommend that you use this if you have thin eyebrows. With the Gimme Brows' small wand I'd recommend that you use that instead if you have thinner brows or another mascara that has a small wand.

When I use this on my brows and it dries, it keeps my the hairs in place and this is probably the reason why I don't think I'll eve use a powder on my brows - my brows can be so unruly. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this for the thick browed gals out there if you're looking for a cheaper alternative.

Quick tip however, don't under any circumstances use black mascara on your brows - even if your hair is black - if anything use a dark brown colour on them. There's a reason why there's no company that makes black brow products - it just doesn't look natural.
T'is all.
Bye everyone and I'll talk to you in the next post!
